A Friday That Thinks it’s a Monday

Today has not started off too good at all. While I slept reasonably well for the second night in a row I woke up to the sound of overly chirpy cemetery birds of doom (I live beside a cemetery) who obviously don’t understand that it’s winter in Oregon and they really should be elsewhere. Additionally, I was slightly dehydrated, likely from the Flexural, and I had a headache, which is still making itself comfortable in my skull.

Wandering downstairs I discovered that I had hosed myself by leaving only a ¼ of a glass of Coke in the bottle, not really enough to settle my cranky tummy, so I set the kettle on and made tea as well. Of course while pouring out the boiling water into the tea cup I had a little muscle spasm that was just enough uncontrolled movement to cause the water to splash down – onto my bare foot where it left a wee lovely  burn. Not bad by any means, but I can still feel it two hours later.

With a sigh I marched back upstairs determined to write a blog here today NO MATTER WHAT, of course, at that point I was still fondly thinking of writing about the art I have created over the past week, how much it meant to me to find a new way to express my inner turmoil and the rigors of dealing with chronic illness etcetera and so forth. Ah… but I was not yet aware that this Friday was having an identity crisis and therefore behaving as though it were a Monday.

Tucked back warmly under my blankets, laptop desk resting, appropriately, on my lap with my hot tea and Smurf-sized serving of soda beside me I snuggled in ready to work. I popped open Toby (yes, my laptop has a name) clicked the “take me to the internetz” button, pulled up my Pandora radio, went for my first facebook check in of the day and something made it all freeze up. Not just kinda freeze up and do the “Chrome’s not responding ‘cause it’s a little lazy at the moment” thing that fixes itself after a second…oh, no… it was everything is frozen and if I push a button it will beep bloody murder at me type of deal.

With a sigh I began the round of diagnostics and fix-its that I know of…which are quite minimal by most standards these days and taught to me by exceedingly patient friends and my step-dad. I ran my Search & Destroy stuff and cleared out all that…I cleaned my caches, cleaned up the disk drive and so forth and Toby was still acting like he was ancient tech and not a 3.5 year old laptop. At this point I turned my eye to the uninstall section.

Thinking back over the last few weeks I remembered that the Kodak camera software had been really causing problems and I decided that since I could just pop the little disk thingy into Toby and access his photo editing stuff, I could finally dump the Kodak. Which I did – before I realized that not only were there all the pictures I’d done for this site (but had not yet posted )there were also all my sister’s wedding reception photos from my camera. There were others taking photos… …many of the same shots even… … but I still feel terrible and like a complete idiot. On the upside, of all things, that seemed to do the trick and after double checking all the other stuff I had done I did a restart and Shazzam! We are up and running again.

I am a little concerned that this is how the entire day will go, but with luck that is enough crappy Monday shenanigans and Friday will snap out of it and be its usual shiny self. Today I pick up my kid who I have not seen for two whole weeks and we get to enjoy a nice weekend, hopefully with friends as well on Sunday, which has been newly ordained as our day of movies and tasty food making. I’m also going to possibly pick up some bread pans which I’ve been seriously needing, and maybe a hot plate so I can set up a little tea station for my room – I drink a lot of tea this time of year and some days 20+ trips up and down the stairs to the kitchen is just not an option.  Sometimes there is nothing like a tiny bit of retail therapy to help perk up a highly confused Friday.

Hmmm I realize this blog doesn’t really go anywhere, however, as it is a blog, I guess it’s not mandatory that it have some deep meaning or lesson. However, just in case you need a lesson or deep meaning, I guess I will remind you that …
